Stigma and discrimination issue resolved

Through the information dissemination of the India HIV/AIDS Act 2017, we have recorded an increased level of awareness of the act among care recipients.

A woman living with HIV, during September, came forward and filed a complaint at CoNE’s Legal AIDS Center about discrimination based on her HIV status by her neighbor.

The case was referred to the Ombudsman with case number 15/2024/OMB-MACS during October.

After reviewing the submissions of both parties, the Ombudsman, made the respondent issue an apology for making hurtful and uncharitable statements towards the complaint.

Both parties were instructed to cease and refrain from using offensive language in their interactions going forward. Substantive penalty will be imposed on any party initiating similar issues in the future.

The case was resolved and closed on November 6, 2024.
